In that posting, I recounted how the very prominent and well-respected former CALI Vice-President, Ed Saucerman (who’d resigned after just a few months in office) had listed the following “testimonial” to demonstrate his investigative prowess:
Testimonials from Real Clients
Government Agency:
“I contacted The Titan Group because The State of California needed litigation support for a case, wherein their investigators captured a licensed social worker sexually assaulting a client on hidden video.” I requested follow up with The Titan Group so I could prosecute the person and revoke his state occupational license during a due process hearing.”
“Due to the quick response and properly documented report and video evidence, I was able to obtain a favorable outcome for the State of California. This cutting edge evidence and support ensured this person would not be able to assault any other persons in need of state social services.”
Karen G.
Deputy Attorney General
State of California

My regular readers will also remember that I wanted to find out just how true that testimonial was, so I reprinted my California Public Records Act request directed to the California Department of Justice. Well, today I received the response from the DOJ and it provides some very interesting reading.
For starters, the subject being investigated was not “a licensed social worker,” he was a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who happened to be working as a social worker. I haven’t found any indication in the file that any private investigator was hired by the California Department of Justice in the case, but there is an intriguing narrative in the Accusation filed by the DOJ to revoke the MFT license: “The female‘s boyfriend hired a private investigator. The investigator installed a surveillance camera inside the female’s residence and captured video footgage of the activities at the female’s residence as well as other supervised visit locations….”
So let’s get this straight. Was this some other private investigator who put a surveillance camera in the victim’s home? Was Ed’s client the California Department of Justice or was it the victim’s boyfriend as the Accusation states? If there wasn’t some other Private Investigator involved and it was Ed’s operation, then who got the narrative wrong, the Department of Justice in its Accusation or Ed on his website?????
Inquiring minds just really want to know the truth, which is why I’m soooooo glad that Rick Von Geldern opened up the can of worms of challenging the CALI board to investigate its members (but of course he wanted the vetting process limited to disclosing arrests, not a full blown background check). Thank you Rick and I’m sure that Ed thanks you too for our efforts to set the record straight.
By the way, seems that after my last blog on the subject, Ed removed this and one other “Testimonial” from his website. Can’t imagine why.
