Ed Saucerman

Edward “Ed” Saucerman recently resigned as Vice President for Administration of the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) ending a brief stint on the Board of Directors during which he was the most consistently rude individual I have ever had the displeasure of serving with on any corporate board. What was really disruptive to CALI and the private investigation industry in California and even nationally was his habit of initiating campaigns or causes and then abandoning them.

Saucerman served a term on the Board of Directors representing the Inland Empire District of CALI. During that time he, along with a single ally on the board, consistently made motion after motion, frequently at the proverbial last minute before a board meeting, and then just as consistently withdrew or didn’t proceed with the majority of them. He made uncalled for email attacks on other board members, myself included. For example, he accused me publicly of being “anti-law enforcement” and then turned around and asked me for my endorsement of his campaign for Vice President of Administration!!! If his allegation was true, why would he even want my endorsement???

So he gets elected as Vice President while his wilder supporters engage in a mudslinging campaign against his opponent. He promptly initiates motions on the board that require much study by committees and sub-committees. I mean, like hours and hours of time of other board members and non-board committee members. He’s on the subcommittee that is supposed to review one of his own motions and guess what: he fails to participate, to offer any information or argument in favor of his own proposal while everybody else takes time out of their busy schedules to discharge their fiduciary duties and duty of reasonable inquiry for CALI.

Then, he abruptly announces he’s quitting his post as VP of Administration, on the CALI membership list serve which is not designed for organizational resignations (but it seems that every time some malcontent quits in a huff over some imagined insult or injury, they “flame out” with a last denunciation of CALI’s leadership on that list serve). Now mind you, soon after he was elected VP and before the new president-elect had taken office, he announced that he would run for president of CALI in a year, without ever having seen the new president’s performance in office.

The saga continues. He gets nominated for President of PICA (Professional Investigators of California). He pulls out of that race and announces that he’ll remain a member of the organization but will let his CALI membership expire.

Compared to some organizations I belong to, these machinations are like playing in the sandbox with some kid who loves to throw sand in the other kids’ eyes. So please Ed, play nice or get out of the sandbox.
